Chapter 7
Using the Storage Subsystems
The internal storage subsystem is the primary source of storage for the system.
The system also comes with a combination IDE CD-ROM and floppy drive.
A spare bay can house a tape drive and is located to the left of the combination
CD-ROM and floppy drive in a rackmount system and above in a pedestal
system. The storage subsystem has two versions: one cage version supports
four 1.6 inch disk drives and the other supports six 1.0 inch disk drives.
The system is designed for hot-swap disk drives and plug and play, which
offers a jumperless configuration of SCSI ID, automatic SCSI termination, and
automatic system recognition.
This chapter contains the following information:
Comparing the two storage subsystems
SCSI bus controller
Disk drive configuration
Hot swap
Drive carriers
Drive status LEDs
Installing drive carriers
Configuring and expanding your storage system
Multimode SCSI termination
Combination CD-ROM and floppy dirve
